Donald Trump's latest gaffe?
Not long after Senator Harry Reid and others in the intelligence community asked that Donald Trump not be privy to sensitive, classified information, it appears that #Donald Trump was given the go-ahead to be in the loop of such information for the first time. Donald Trump was present for an intelligence briefing, in which he was given sensitive information relating to his own safety, as well as the safety of the American people.
Shortly after the briefing, it seems that Trump's mouth (which has been a hallmark of his campaign and his persona in general) may be getting him in even more political trouble. Trump inadvertently (or perhaps intentionally) revealed classified information pertaining to the location of a secret military base in front of a crowd at a rally in Colorado Springs. Trump remarked on the fact that the United States of America should not have to pay rent on military bases in Saudi Arabia.
On the surface, one might think to themselves: so what? There are numerous military bases scattered all across the world, what difference does it make if there are bases in Saudi Arabia? Having said that, on the surface, such an argument would be correct -- except for the fact that there isn't supposed to be an American military base in Saudi Arabia of any kind. Ironically, while Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has been under fire for the mishandling of classified emails, it seems that the Donald may have committed something similar, albeit of the verbal, spoken word variety.
Donald Rumsfeld was supposedly in charge of closing the military base in Saudi Arabia following 9/11. If what Donald Trump said is fact checked and is proven to be true, it would essentially mean that the well kept secret of a military base is now, undoubtedly, public knowledge.
Business as usual for the Donald?
It's unknown at this time what consequences (if any) may befall the Donald, however, it may not deter the Trump campaign in the long game. Donald Trump has based his campaign on the fact that he says what he means in an unfiltered, raw fashion. Its that very characteristic that has brought out supporters in droves. Statistically speaking, for a man that doesn't filter what he says, the probability that he may say something to get himself in hot water from time to time is high. That said, however, with classified information at stake, one has to wonder if the Donald may have bitten off more than he can chew with this latest faux pas. #Election 2016 #Democrats vs Republicans
